One of the most amazing aspects of scale models is the real life experience it represents.
And filming that experience is all worth so much more.
With technology these days, the options are unlimited, from FPV cameras, to wi-fi cameras to the more obvious cell phone videos.
But each comes with a price tag.
This image is a screenshot of a video taken by an iPhone mounted on a 1,7m tug boat. It is stable enough to ensure the phone is safe.
Mounted at a height where the camera lens is in line with the helmsman's view, it creates the scene from the bridge without much effort.
One added benefit to using a mobile phone, is that you can also track your voyage and record the speed using an app called Map-my-ride.
The risk is that you might lose your phone if the boat capsizes and it is not recommended for models with low sides or smaller than 750mm.
Using an action camera with a waterproof housing.
These are available from the Go-pro or Eken models to the cheaper $5 chinese knock-offs. Ideally one with wi-fi and app control is better as it is often difficult to see the TF screen in direct sunlight. (from experience I learnt that many hours are lost because the camera failed to start recording).
The nicest option is a FPV camera mounted inside the bridge and using FPV Goggles to see where you go. The disadvantage is that it in most options, recording is not possible. But if you are willing to spend that extra bucks, a recording module will be the show-off you need.
Have fun!
And remember - Don't text and sail!😀
