You hit the nail on the head.I have been trying to get a hull to a friend in Canada since last February. He was going to pick it up while driving to Florida. Too expensive to ship it in one piece, being 7+ ft long. Now I will have to cut it to ship it. Meanwhile Canadians can fly to this country while having a commercial company drive their RV across the border, where the owners pick it up. There is always a way to get around rules if one looks hard enough and is willing to pay the $. It just leave 80 % of people restricted while the 20% get to flaunt it. In the end, it is all about the $$$$.

I'm angry at what is happening in the US now.Canada has close ties with the US not only economically but border as well.Years ago most countries implemented wearing seat belts to save lives and it has.
How is wearing a mask an infringement on peoples rights.For me leadership is the key to mask wearing .I believe the US leadership has checked out.Could be very costly to Canada in the future.

The US may have been the leader of the 'free' world, especially after they took over the job of the 'World's Policeman' from Britain after WW2, and they may well be again. But they certainly were not under Trump.
Trump could only 'lead' 🙄 those countries he could put under financial duress and did not have the strength or the will to resist.
Depends to a large extent on one's definition/delineation of 'The Free World' and concept of 'leading'!

No argument from me...I have considered moving. It is still an option because I do not see this country return to a sensible state.
My wife and I spent 2 weeks in NZ and 2 in Australia while on our honeymoon, 32 years past, and we were both floored by the beauty and sensibility(not quite so much so in Kaola land). What goes around, comes around I am afraid.....

Hi TD, we have the odd idiot here and Aust as well, but our laws are on the side of business owners who can refuse entry to people without masks (if that is their policy) we don't have people deliberately going into shops without masks, screaming about their rights not to wear one, as many videos from the US seem to show. It's nice to be free, but when it comes to endangering your fellow countrymen and women, you have to draw a line somewhere. When we see this sort of stuff going on, we feel sorry for all the people doing the right thing. This virus will never go away unless everyone is on the same side and making an effort.

A number of countries have pretty much done it by making a small sacrifice, and are now able to relax a bit. There are still people round the world who just don't (or won't ) get that.

As an aside,- We have had a massive surge in Americans applying for residents visas recently, which perhaps says a lot about what they are thinking. What can we say but "c'mon down"😁, rather you guys than certain others we can't mention.😉

BTW, something model related,- did you know that a Kiwi owned and improved SIG manufacturing at one stage (just stirring)😁 oh, and we are making our own rockets down here now😂 even put up a few satellites😁. Watch out NASA !😊

Hi Rick, I think you will find that most of the people who are dying today, are poorer people who cant afford or can't get to doctors or testing stations till it's too late, or older people. South America is a very good example, where people in crowded slum areas were dying at a high rate in their houses, and guys were just going round in vans collecting the bodies, - same in India. UK has some pretty crowded poorer areas as well, (also highly populated cities) so the death toll has been high there as well (also because of people ignoring the health warnings).

A lot of Americans are just plain stupid,- complaining about their rights not to wear masks etc and having unprotected mass rallies and risking the lives of the sensible people there. What can you expect but higher numbers. Numbers also seem to be proportional to the population concentrations to a degree. Sept figures for Vietnam,-1350 cases, only 35 deaths for eg, - world wide over 63m cases with only 1.47m deaths.

World population 2020 - 7.8 billion people = 1/5,306th of the worlds population has died (supposedly of this virus,) - not even noticeable in real terms. When you think that over 200,000 people died just from the Indonesia tsunami and almost 16,000 in the 2011 Japan tsunami, - that's just a couple of natural disasters affecting 2 very small areas on the earths surface.

If someone you know dies from it, it will appear far more deadly than it really is. It is a new strain of an old virus and we still need time to tame it.
If Ebola was let loose in China for example, imagine the consequences!
Ebola is way more deadly,(50% death rate) - we are lucky this is only a new nasty flu strain which can be cured in 99% of cases, if caught early. In Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea 11,000 people died from Ebola in 2013 (even with a huge containment effort) - and that is nowhere near world wide! There is no current cure for Ebola either.

Newby, that's exactly what we were doing. I think a close scrutiny of the published figures could reveal a lot when compared to other non covid years. There's an agenda here somewhere. There's a lot of conspiracy theories which make interesting reading.

Nerys not to making lite of your thought process but when you look at the covid deaths you need to then add in all other deaths that you compared from last year and then get a total.

Do you know JB, Alice and I agree with you on all points. I saw a set of statistics the other day where the deaths overall were more or less the same as they were for last year without covid.
There's something going on that we can only guess at.

Hi Nerys, I'm sure it will happen there before too long. We are lucky being a tiny Island (3 island) country in the middle of nowhere with a small population, so we have a big advantage. I find it very strange, that although the govt is allowing people in from all over the world, with dozens of those testing positive for the virus and in isolation, not one of of them has died or ended up in critical care??? - very very strange. !!!

If you have time to look at the YouTube vid (in its' entirety) I posted under 'AliExpress, govt interference' (Are we being told the truth about covid-19?) from a microbiology professor, looks like the answer is there. Seems we are possibly being told porkies and being treated like mushrooms. 😐 As I mentioned, it will be interesting to see if anything arises out of this mass gathering. Even though a seemingly large number of people have died round the world (most elderly with pre-existing conditions,- will probably include me as an ex long time smoker), the number is minute if you look at the worlds population.

There's never been a serious very public world count of flu deaths as far as I am aware, or plane crash victims, drowning victims accident of any kind victims to compare to this current pandemic, so why have all of these disappeared into the background all of a sudden. More children have probably starved to death in poor countries in the last few years than all the covid deaths, (not to mention all those people killed in the middle eastern wars!)

If people are sensible and take reasonable precautions (washing hands, masks on public transport, spacing etc it should die out on its own. Only the idiots will spoil it for you.

The only small problem Pete, is you will have a 14 day forced stay in a luxury hotel at your own expense before being declared "fit for purpose"😁 being covid free doesn't come cheap (LOL))

To give an idea of how many people there were, inside the red line was pretty much arms length throughout. All the people in the camp ground were out as well, kids by the hundreds hooning round everywhere at night on scooters and bikes. No trouble anywhere as far as I could tell,- didn't even see one policeman! everyone was probably happy to be back to normal, (hope it lasts and no sick buggers were there, or we'll be knackered😂)

PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING : DON'T READ THIS IF YOU FEEL THAT PEOPLE HAVING BEEN GOOD LITTLE CITIZENS AND ALLOWED TO HAVE A BIT OF FUN MIGHT UPSET YOU😁

We had our yearly beach concert tonight at Orewa Beach (fund raising for the Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club) Beautiful warm moonlit night, live band and around 10,000 people there. Great fireworks display at 9.00 pm with 2 local yachts moored off the beach (would be hundreds if we weren't so far from Auckland - (about a 60 mile return trip if they wanted to come) Beautiful area, but very few boats moored up this way due to being open to the ocean, with sometimes huge waves in storms. There was a runabout offshore as well and they did a small private display from the boat as it motored around (small green pic) before the main display.

Pics and vid are rubbish, as I just used my tiny keycam type camera which needs a lot of light to work properly (ok in daylight) I've enhanced a few of the pics to make them a bit clearer as it was pretty much dark except for a full moon. I walked down from my place and didn't want to carry a large camera all the way (just over 2 miles round trip)

A small kid on a large scooter ran into me on the big beach path where hundreds of people were walking to the event, and I didn't realise my phone had dropped off its clip for a hundred yards or so. I went back to the spot to see if it was there (not holding out much hope) and saw a guy on a phone there. I asked him if he had seen a stray phone, and he said "you mean this one, I've just called your son"😁 (he happened to ring a random number on my list) Very happy to get it back, - cheap phone but the hassle of replacing is a pain. Nice SA guy (was his kid that ran into me)- think he is holidaying in the big council caravan park there, - might have to see if I can find him and drop a bottle of something off. There are still some honest people out there😊👍👍

It will be very interesting to see if any virus comes out of this, as none of the thousands had masks and were all close, ie pretty much a mass crowd of all ages. One very interesting point I saw someone make on line last night was,-how is it, with all these years of the flu being around, how come no-one has come up with an effective vaccine, but they have suddenly come up with one for this virus????. The flu vaccine they have made is pretty much useless, as the viruses change and adapt constantly and it's really only good for one strain (also some people say after having it, they have never been sicker in their lives.) The same would be true for the present Corona virus I would think. All a big money making racket by drug companies, (imagine all the cold and flu remedies etc they wouldn't sell any more if they could cure these viruses.) By only half curing them, it keeps them in business, (along with massive funding from govts.) Imagine the billions they will make from this!!
