Motor question slec 47" huntsman

I don't know yet. I need to paint the hull first which I've kept putting off! I've got the paint though now so shouldn't be too long.

I tend to oversize my motors so that they won't have to work hard and therefore won't need cooling and given the power of brushless motors I'm pretty confident that it will perform well.

I've fitted an Overlander Thumper V3 4250/06 800kV which will be running on 4S to my 33" Swordsman as it is becoming a heavy old beast.

Hi

I was going to replace the 850 brushed motor in mine (but then sold it) with either an Overlander 5045 720kV or Leopard 5055 650kV (from The Component Shop). The slightly higher kV over that of the motor specified with 500kV means that you can come down on the battery voltage - 4S would give you around 10k. RPM which will give good speed. Both of these motors require a minimum ESC of 80amps.

Motors in this size/spec are few and far between, unlike with the plentiful 28 and 35mm diameter, and these are the only ones that I could find. I would have gone for the Overlander as that is my standard choice for my builds and has a higher kV.

The motor suggested was a direct replacement for a 60cc I.C. engine which I suspect was a popular choice for speed freaks in the day.
It's specs say 900watts and any similar 500Kv motor would suffice. Unless you are intending to race the model the specs say a 60 amp ESC is recommended. Brushless EScs come in many forms and you require one that is suitable for a model boat, usually with water cooling tubes attached. Boat EScs can run in both fwd and rev mode controlled by the Tx stick just like a brushed ESc. There are EScs for model cars, usually sporting a fan for cooling. These have a rev function but usually require you to brake, then select reverse - ie it is not instantaneous and can be difficult to use, in my opinion as a user. I suggest you Google 4260/06 500Kv and look at some similar items. Good luck.
I am sure others on this site have Huntsmen and will be able to give further advice.
