Hi I agree a nice brass prop sets off a model. You have to make sure the sort the prototype model has as there are so many. Prop Shop now taken over by Protean say they have 1000 designs and sizes.
I went and did a count up of my spare props a third of them are brass and more than a few paired contra rotating ones. I categorize at or below 40mm as small of which there were 85 and large up to 60mm 60 odd then there are about 20 boats so rarely short of a prop.

I do use them for testing the right prop to motor configuration for a new model. So not just sitting there.
regards
Roy

I usually use a drop of contact adhesive after thoroughly cleanimg the thread area, never lost a prop after that treatment!! And, the prop is easy to remove.

There are numerous ways of ensuring retention of your wheel. All are applicable.
Mine is to file a flat onto the shaft. This is done after drilling a hole and threading it, in the hub of the prop, for a set screw. Thread the prop onto the shaft and mark the shaft thru the hole. Make sure to have tightened the prop snuggly. File the flat at the mark. dress the shaft. Install the prop, I use a low tension thread lock here as well. Align the hole with the flat while the tightening the prop. Apply thread lock to the set screw and tighten. It should hold pretty good.

I always use locktite and a lock nut. Along with a thrust washer between the nut and the shaft end.
Works for me!

Ok I have invested in a new shiny brass propeller, ready to replace the cheap plastic one. Now how do I go about ensuring it does not become a statistic at the bottom of the boating lake. They are expensive. Do I apply Loktite then a locking nut ? What about washers? OK I heard it screws itself in on forward but can unscrew itself in reverse..Hence the loktite and locking nut..
Please, any advice would be gratefully recieved...
