1.5mm is fine for that size and scale, 1.38mm to be exact!

I don't fancy working with planks that small myself! My Faireys are 1:12 using 5mm wide planks which is more my sort of size!

Hi ChrisF, I can recollect the teak planking width to be about 4 inches (100mm) or there a bouts on life size ships.
I’m building the Revell1/72 corvette so I thought 1.5mm planks would pass the test. Thanks for your help. (can't see the builders would give much attention to teak decks on a warship)

If the planking supplied is to scale then that would give a full size plank width of 3 x 60 = 180mm or just over 7". Build being at a scale of 1:60.

The planks may be a bit over scale but less width may not be readily available and would be difficult to handle and glue in place?

Paul, for your build, depending on the scale your planks may be wider. What scale are you looking at/building to?

I am building "Finnmarken cruise ship"(see blog) the decking is 3mm wide by 0.5mm thick and 450mm long(150 supplied).
If that is of any help, the boat is approx 1.24 m long

Hi PaulT1, as ToraDog says the size would depend on the actual ship and period. If you are modelling a scale model of a particular ship it helps if we know the full details to be able to give a more detailed answer. The details given should help with a stand off scale model.

I think there may be a lot of variation. If the bridge was enclosed, then I doubt that the deck was teak planked at all, rather steel plate. Unenclosed the bridge was often decked with a teak grating. Most small vesels had deck planking running in the 3-4 inch widths. large ships, cruisers and BB's ran 4-6 inch. As the scarcity of teak became more of an issue the planks narrowed.

I don't know if it's any help, but USCGC Barque Eagle has (had in 1980) teak planks essentially a nominal 2X4. (1 3/4" X 3 3/4").
